Navigating the Future: Forerunner Recognized in State of Maine’s Landmark AI Report

This recognition underscores our commitment to being a trusted partner for the State of Maine as it navigates the rapidly evolving landscape of AI to better serve its residents.

What is the Maine AI Task Force?

Established by Governor Janet Mills in December 2024, the Maine Artificial Intelligence Task Force was created to investigate the profound implications of AI for Maine’s people, economy, and workforce. Composed of 21 members, including state and local officials, educators, and industry leaders, the Task Force spent nearly a year listening to experts and citizens to chart a responsible path forward.

The resulting State of Maine AI Task Force Report, released in October 2025, serves as a comprehensive roadmap for the state. It balances the need to harness AI’s potential for innovation with the necessity of building strong guardrails to protect privacy and security.

Supporting Maine’s Resilience

A primary focus of the Task Force was exploring how AI can help public agencies address capacity gaps and improve service delivery. The report highlights Forerunner as a key AI-powered tool helping Maine's state and local officials make informed and coordinated decisions.

The devastating winter storms of 2023-2024 highlighted the urgent need for modernized disaster response. As noted on page 43 of the report: "Forerunner, a Maine-based company, offers an AI-powered geospatial platform for government that helps public sector agencies modernize operations across floodplain management, emergency management, and more."

By centralizing geospatial and regulatory data, Forerunner allows state and local officials to make more coordinated, informed decisions before, during, and after disasters.
