
Maine's Bureau of Insurance is launching Fortify Maine Homes, a $15 million grant program offering homeowners $10,000 to $15,000 to retrofit their roofs against severe climate events, as insurance premiums across the state climb 23%. The Bureau partnered with Forerunner to build an online portal that streamlines the process for applicants, contractors, evaluators, and staff alike — residents apply in one place, while AI helps reviewers flag missing data, verify addresses and flood-zone status, and generate summaries that speed approvals. The program opens for applications this June across four pilot counties, with flood-mitigation projects planned for next year.
