Webinar Recap: A Guide to Achieving CRS Class 4

The Community Rating System (CRS) program is a fundamental aspect of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) with over 1,500 communities participating. The voluntary incentive program recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices. In exchange for engaging in mitigation and adaptation activities, communities receive significant discounts on flood insurance premiums that benefit residents and property owners. While the program can be a huge boon in communities with high flood risk where property owners might have difficulty affording flood insurance premiums, participation can be a heavy lift due to documentation and ongoing recertification requirements.

Advancing from CRS class 5 to class 4 is one of the biggest challenges for communities participating in the CRS today - in fact, there are only 25 communities who have achieved CRS class 4.

In this webinar, Lori Lehr, Community Rating System (CRS) and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Consultant and President of Lori Lehr Inc., joined Forerunner Co-Founder, Susanna Pho, to discuss actionable strategies for achieving the points and prerequisites to advance to a CRS class 4. Drawing from her 20+ years of experience in floodplain management and the CRS, Lori clearly and concisely broke down the complex requirements - specifically focusing on higher regulatory standards, a watershed master plan, a floodplain management plan, natural floodplain functions, and life safety measures. If you missed the webinar, you can find a recording of the conversation below.
